One month in McMurdo!

Midnight, Saturday October 4th.

As of October 3rd I've been living in Antarctica for one month!

To celebrate let's have a quick room tour.

There's really not much to my room, or rather my corner of my room. Out of respect to my roommates I'm not showing the rest of the mess (it's trashed, there's a TV and a mini fridge).

I'm actually pretty comfortable in my nest. The only problem is that outside all three walls of my side are hallways, the walls are thin, and people are.. loud.
This was a gift from a friend of mine, a winterover whose leaving tomorrow. It's.. big, it makes beach sounds and it once was a space heater. I wonder where they stole it from..

And yeah, that thing takes up a lot of space and it lives under my bed! I've been instructed to keep it safe and give it to someone worthy of keeping it when I myself leave. A true honor.

I've been doing some real work recently which has been nice. Projects ended and I'm now on sustaining doing work orders and science support. A few days of fixing cabinets, de-winterizing some buildings, and putting together a pallet of scaffolding. Soon I'll be sent to the NASA LDB (long distance balloon) to set up their massive temporary hanger.

That is of course if my contract comes through. No news on that. I'm staying positive though.

It's been a busy week, a busy weekend celebrating my friends departure, and looks to be a nice week. Hope you all are well. I'll leave you with some photos from a road trip on Saturday morning. Up past "Fortress Rocks" and a long the ridge.

I don't know what the domes are for. I think they're related to NASA polar satellite tracking but I'm not positive.

Don't smoke. I need to quit. Observation Hill over my shoulder.
